THE DOCKS SEAFOOD + GRILLE - VICTORIA, BC, CANADA

Third day in Victoria and I had to have some classic seafood dishes. I had wandered past this restaurant the day before, peeked at the menu, and started salivating, so figured it was a good bet. Had it recommended by a local, so it must be good! The hostesses were very gracious in seating me, as I moved twice when they kept giving me the option of a better view of the harbor (but who wouldn't take that option!). I settled into a corner of the outdoor seating, on a thin strip that faced the harbor activity. The waiter was a local, and the son of the owners, so I took his recommendations on food and ordered the following:

Crab Cakes - good size with generous avocado dipping sauce. Not much filler in the cakes which is always a nice surprise. Crust was good texture and great crunch.

Mussels in White Wine and Garlic - 3 different flavor options, which was nice to see. Mussels were fresh and juicy, great broth, but tomatoes tasted very old, kinda put a damper on it. I would order it again but ask if tomatoes are fresh or just leave them off.

Deep Fried Oysters - batter was a bit heavy, but had a nice flavor to it. When I hit a thinly battered, plump oyster, the flavor was great, and got a very decent portion for the price.

Overall, a fantastic experience, great harbor views and delicious food. I am going back this week still to try their whole crab, can't wait to dig in!
