As anyone who knows me well knows, I LOOOOOOOOVE sushi. Love it with all my heart. Like if I could only eat one food for the rest of my life, I would choose sushi.

I've been to this sushi joint a few times since moving to Edmonton. It has probably the best quality for price I've found in town so far. Their tuna is especially good. They are a typical little hole-in-the-wall in a strip mall, booths on one side and tables on the other, small and cozy. I will admit that I have a regular table by the window and they know my face now... Thankfully they are incredibly nice people there and don't judge me when I pull out my book or tablet for an obviously solo meal.

Sashimi Carpaccio - red snapper, tuna, salmon, ebi, avocado in ponzu sauce. They recently reworked the menu, and this was one of their new appetizers. I hadn't really tried ponzu sauce on a simple dish so I could pick it out, but wow, it was such a great contrast to the fish and the avocado, the sweet vinegar cutting through the fat of the dish. I've never been one for toppings on sushi, but the sesame seeds and green onion did add a unique flavor with the ponzu sauce. Tell you what, do yourself a favor and go try it both ways and let me know what you prefer!

Mackerel, salmon, tuna, chopped scallop - I have my go-to sushi types. I think everyone does. Chopped scallop is one of those, to get the creaminess and also a bit more of the nori. I love nori. I eat sheets of it as a snack. Tuna of course is always good, but they have a great tuna. Very firm, rich, well cut and always generously portioned. I have never had a complaint about how much food I'm getting for the price at Kabuki. Mackerel isn't for everyone, but it's one of my favorites. I like the rich, oily flavor. And salmon is a staple, have to sample it at every sushi restaurant I go to, but I find I discover more about their quality with their tuna.

Here's just some more gratuitous sushi pictures, because who doesn't want to look at beautiful food and drool over it when you can't have it immediately??

So all in all, go stuff your face at Kabuki with their incredibly fresh fish and fantastically creative rolls. In fact, I think I'm going to take myself out for dinner there this weekend!
