This was one restaurant I absolutely could not wait to try out. I spotted it my first trip out to Victoria, but hadn't wandered down that way until the second trip. I've always loved any food I've found at a brasserie, so figured it was a good one to splurge on. I wandered down earlyish on a Thursday evening, found the place packed to the gills, but only had a 5 minute wait for a quaint little table in the back corner. The waiter was quick and very helpful with menu suggestions. The atmosphere was spectacular, vintage dance hall posters on the wall (all of which I wanted to steal), candles on the tables, classy cafe chairs at small tables. So I settled in for a luscious meal and dove into the menu.

Tuna Tartar - Throw tuna or tartar in any menu and I am there! They had some lovely hand cut cactus chips on the top which were a great textural counterpart to the succulent tuna. The cucumber and apple accented the flavors and lightened the sauce up a bit. All in all, lovely.

Chicken Liver Mousse - with pickles, baguette, and grainy mustard. The pickles were't to my taste, but I'm picky about my pickles. Comes with a mom who makes the world's best pickles at home. The mustard definitely added a necessary note of fat-cutting vinegar to the mousse, even with just a tad of it. The mousse itself had a slight bitter note to it, but overall was a delicious dish.

Brasserie Burger - bacon, Gruyère cheese, and grainy mustard aïoli. This burger was great, moist, tender, flavorful. Of course I got the truffle fries, because, as we all know, I loooooove the truffle. And they were awesome fries. The dish was simple, but the great flavors didn't need anything more.

Chocolate Torte - This. Was. The. Best. Thing. Ever. I have never had a chocolate dessert this rich and smooth and sumptuous and spectacular and perfect. The torte had a chocolate crumb crust, which was a great balance to the rich filling that melted in the mouth. The quenelle wasn't actually ice cream, it was luscious dark chocolate mousse. It was a bit lighter than the rich torte, and rested on a pile of chocolate crumbs, and they just added great textural elements to each bite.

I will definitely be going back to try new menus there, as they change every night!
