My best friends came to town and wanted to grab lunch, and I had seen The Provincial several times and wanted to check it out. I thought it was more of a restaurant but it's more sports bar, screens everywhere and game machines in the front corner.

Beef Cheeks - Braised Alberta beef cheeks with gruyere polenta, shitake mushrooms and fried brussel sprouts in a veal demi-glace.

Oh. Dear. Beef. Cheeks. I don't think I've had this tender of meat ever in my life. It melted in my mouth, the fat was the perfect amount to compliment the meat without needing to be trimmed. The sprouts were nice and tender without being mush, and were a great sharp contrast to the rich meat. I've only had polenta a couple times in my life, most only recently. This was creamy and with the mushrooms, made a nice earthy mouthful with great texture. A great overall dish for a cold winter day.
