Welcome to Victoria! I am lucky enough to get 9 days on Vancouver Island, and I will be stuffing myself with as much fresh seafood as I can! I arrived early in the evening, so settled in to my room and then went for a wander of the neighborhood. I'm staying just off the harbor in Chinatown, so there are beautiful little restaurants down every alley. I wanted something light for a snack, and had wandered into the Market Square where I found Cafe Mexico, a homey Mezcal bar. I parked it at the bar, as I've found bartenders tend to know the best of the food scene in their city. I ordered a sangria and got to work on the menu.

Guacamole De La Casa - great texture, some large chunks, pickled jalapeno gives it a nice heat, not too spicy. Great fresh cut tortilla chips, would definitely recommend.

Fish and Chips Tacos - deep-fried cod strips, slaw, pickled onion and avocado verde creme. Generous portion of fish, the toppings really complimented the flavors. The side of pueblo street fries and yuzu aioli were deliciously crispy and light. Definitely a keeper.
I will definitely be back with a bigger appetite to try their other tacos and dishes, and the sangria was fantastic, made with rose wine and not too sweet. Perfect for the hot day it was, and the staff we incredibly friendly.
