RED FISH BLUE FISH - VICTORIA, BC, CANADA

Ok, so I have to admit, the first time I tried Red Fish Blue Fish, I kinda sorta inhaled the deep-fried heaven in about 5 minutes, completely forgetting to take pictures for you! Soooo there was just nothing else to do but to go back, stand in the hour and a half line in the baking sun (tho there was a delightful breeze to keep us cool) and try it again.
Therefore! Feast your eyes on:

Deep Fried Pickles - I've always been somewhat of a pickle connoisseur (self-acclaimed, of course), so when I spotted pickles on the menu, I was all over it. These were different from any I'd come across before, they weren't dill pickle spears, they were dill slices, like the kosher ones you can find in the market. And they were amazing! Crunchy-beyond-belief batter, great flavour, kind of a mix between tartar and ranch dipping sauce. And for $3, you can't pass them up!

BC Halibut and Chips - I've only ever had cod, so I had to go for the fresh halibut. And oooooo am I glad I did. The fish was moist (apologies to those who can't stand that word, but there's no other word for perfection), batter crunchy and light, and great tartar sauce. The fries were a bit cool, but fresh and crispy. The coleslaw had a flavour I can't place, something like cumin or fennel seed, but fresh and lovely.

Deep Fried Oysters - And last, but definitely not least, the oysters. Ooooh the oysters. I will dream about these oysters for years to come. With the amount oysters shrink when cooked, these must have started out the size of my hand! Plump and juicy, steaming hot, incredible. I've had my share of fried oysters, but oh my, these were by leaps and bounds the best I've ever had. I will have these every time I come back to Victoria. Every. Single. Time.

And one more glamour shot for the road.
If you are cruising around the harbour, it's worth the stand in line. There's usually an ice cream truck parked next to it with great treats, so you can have something to tide you over and cool you down while you wait.
