I found myself out in Sooke on the weekend, a small town up the west coast of Vancouver Island from Victoria. Located in the Prestige Oceanfront Resort is the West Coast Grill, their upscale dining room. I got to sit on the patio on the back, overlooking the marina and water. It was a beautiful view for the evening. I got there as there was a party of 25 for a wedding tasting, but the wait staff was great in communicating that fact and getting my order in before the kitchen was overrun with the party's orders. I had yet to have crab on the coast, so of course I jumped on the Dungeness crab as soon as I saw the live tank by the entrance.

300 Yard Dungeness Crab - poached, with edamame risotto, seasonal vegetables, garlic butter. The crab was delicious, succulent and sweet, great with the butter. The risotto on the other hand, was pretty bland, needed more salt and cheese to give it some flavor. The edamame gave it really the only texture it had, the rice was overdone. The vegetables were vegetables, nothing special.

I would definitely go back for the view, and try some other things on the menu.
